HEALTHY EATING FOR HEALTHY LIVING
A Healthy and
balanced nutrition is the key to a fit body, active mind, and beautiful glowing
skin. For a healthy diet the four important
questions to be addressed in order of their importance are How We Eat, What We
Eat, When We Eat & How Much We Eat .Following the below mentioned simple
five rules address all the above four points and have a number of profound
benefits in our overall well being. Always remember that “We Are What We Eat”,
hence utmost importance should be given to our eating habits.
Being fit and healthy
doesn’t mean you have to work out for hours every day or eat boiled vegetables
and chicken for a very meal. In fact, there are several more effective habits
which are less painful, you can adopt today that will not only help you get in
shape in the short-term but will help you stay healthy and fit that way for the
long run as well.
Simple lifestyle
changes can help you get health fitness and live a healthier life. It’s the
small little things that you do each day that adds up to being healthy and fit.
There are a lot of elements to a healthy lifestyle and we do a lot of things to
be health conscious. When it comes to healthy eating, there's no
one-size-fits-all answer. The Dalai Lama eats meat because he gets sick when he
doesn't. Several friends follow a modified raw food diet; they seem full of
radiant good health. Another friend avoids sugar--she's lost 35 pounds--but
otherwise eats as she will. My 92-year- old aunt seems to subsist mainly on
dark chocolate candy, and she's fit and sharp.
Most of us are
searching for eating patterns that keep us healthy, well-nourished, and happy,
while maintaining a healthy weight. "Healthy weight" can vary from
person to person. I would define it as weight that significantly reduces your
risk for such diseases as type 2 diabetes, heart problems, certain types of
cancer, and eating disorders, while giving you energy, vitality, and strength.
A summary of good reasons for healthy eating, besides the obvious one of
staying alive, includes these motivators:
• Energy/fuel.
• Health/beauty.
• Weight loss or
maintenance.
• Pleasure.
• Bonding/social
connection.
Follow the
following rules, and you will do well with sticking to a healthy diet..
1.
Eat at
regular times every day - 3 small meals a day is most practical.
2.
Breakfast
1 hour after you wake up, whenever that is. Lunch 4 hours after that, and
dinner 5 hours after that. There are absolutely no restrictions on the time.
For instance, if you work night shift, your breakfast might be at 7 PM, lunch
at 11:30 PM and dinner at 5 AM.
3.
Do not
eat what you don’t like. The trick is to get yourself to like good foods. This
doesn’t happen overnight, but it can be done. For example, if you don’t like
tomatoes, you can work it into your diet in palatable ways and ultimately get
to the point where you don’t mind eating tomatoes.
4.
Don’t
let anyone tell you what you can and cannot eat. What you eat should be your
own choice. This is what normal eating means. However, stop eating when you are
no longer hungry, even if there is food left in the plate. Be firm with
yourself, and with the kind souls around you who think they can buy your love
by forcing you to eat when you are already full.
5.
Always
eat in moderation. If apples are in season, you eat 1 apple a day, not 10
apples. The same goes for all kinds of foods. Don’t eat anything that is not
easily available in the stores (e.g. avocados, Atlantic cod). Don’t eat
something if it is not in season.
6.
Know
your weaknesses when it comes to food and drink, and address them in a sensible
way. If you KNOW you like sweets, be sure to curtail it in ways that you can
handle. If you are drinking 4 cups of coffee to get yourself started in the
morning, there is a problem that you need to address.
7.
Don’t
discuss your diet with anyone else. It is your business, and you don’t need to
inform anyone else, or proselytize your diet. If the curious people around you
ask you about your diet, you tell them that you just look naturally beautiful
without even trying to diet.
8.
Be sure
that you drink sufficient fluids during the day, at least 2.5 Liter of water
plus whatever else you think is good for your health.
9.
Be sure
to exercise sufficiently every day - for 30 to 45 minutes, or enough to burn
150 calories on any of the exercise machines.
10. Get at least 7 hours of sleep every day. If
you can sleep undisturbed for 7–8 hours, your stress levels are probably in the
normal range of day-to-day life.
Life being what it
is, you might have to wander outside these guidelines. That's OK. You don't
need to be perfect in your eating patterns. If the Dalai Lama eats meat, you
can have seconds on sweet potatoes from time to time.
